This is one of the most ambitious projects of the Recovery Plan, as pointed out by the SpanishFirst Vice-President and Minister for Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, at the press conference that followed the approval.
This PERTE was created with the aim of comprehensively develop the design and production capabilities of the Spanish microelectronics and semiconductor industry by covering the entire value chain, -from design to chip manufacturing-, and generaing a multiplier effect, not only in the technology sectors, but also on the entire industry and the economy as a whole.
The SpanishVice-President highlighted that the shortage of semiconductor production inEurope leads to dependence on players located in Taiwan, the United States,South Korea, Japan and China, which must be remedied promptly. Europe has launched several projects to reach 20% of world production by 2030.
The strategic project will have a budget of 12.25 billion euros until 2027, financed mainly with European funds through the addendum to the Recovery,Transformation and Resilience Plan. The implementation of the PERTE will be articulated through different management instruments, such as grants, capital contributions, contracts, commissions and other forms of public-private partnerships.
To articulate and oversee the project, there will be a Special Commissioner for the Microelectronics and Semiconductor Project, which will be headed by expertJaime Martorell Suárez
More than 60 companies will benefit from the 'Chip Missions' grants in collaboration with the CDTI.

The aid, totaling over 80 million euros from the Next Generation EU Funds, will be available at the end of the month.
